The defending World Champion Scott Neary led the field to the green flag in the first race of the Indoor Auto Racing event of the 2022 season.
Neary was the 2020 champion for the series. There was no series races last year due to the covid-19 limitations.
Teammates, Neary and Jared Silfee, ran side by side for much of the early event. Neary led the first four laps of the event before Silfee took control of the top spot. A yellow flag slowed the action on lap nine with Brett Bieber now sandwiched between the team cars in the top three.
The race went green the rest of the way with Bieber grabbing the top spot from Silfee just before they began to catch lap traffic. Bieber took control on lap 13 and led the remaining seven laps of the event. Even as the field moved into traffic, Bieber maneuvered his way through to clear race track and the eventual checkered flag.
Bieber’s pass of Silfee and Neary to complete a late-race charge to victory will have him at the top of the standings heading into Atlantic City January 28-29. Silfee, Neary, Louden Reimert and Cody Kline were the rest of the top five.
Matt Mertz is your E. Schneider and Sons Slingshot scrapper of the race given to the driver that passes the most cars. Mertz started 17th and finished seventh.
Scott Neary set fast time for the 22 Slingshot entries with a 10.209 clocking. Neary, Jared Silfee, and Brett Bieber won the three 10-lap heat races.
Alex Reinsmith won the B Main.
Indoor Auto Racing Series action now shifts to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on Friday and Saturday, January 28-29 for the annual running of the NAPA KNOW HOW TQ Midget Classic, an event first run in 2003.
The three-race Championship Series concludes on March 11-12, 2022 with the Syracuse Indoor Race at the Fairgrounds Expo Center in Syracuse, NY where 2022 Series Champions will be crowned in all three divisions.
